Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare

AI's capacity for "deep learning" enables "virtual assistants" to assimilate all the data available for a patient and catch things that doctors might miss. Deep learning refers to AI's ability to "learn" in a similar manner to the human brain by gathering information and updating its working knowledge using new bits of data. In addition to helping doctors better deliver care, virtual medical assistants can also be beneficial to patients who require an extra set of "eyes" to keep up with their health. This includes the elderly who may forget to do everything they should in daily living.

Getting an Accurate Diagnosis Despite all the advances in diagnostic technology, misdiagnosis is still a significant issue in the healthcare industry. An incorrect diagnosis can result in unnecessary treatments and procedures that do not benefit the patient while ignoring real conditions that often require urgent attention. Making sure diagnoses are accurate, also cuts costs by eliminating unnecessary medical work and repeated issues from patients with unresolved issues due to misdiagnosed symptoms. AI can rapidly amalgamate all the available information on the patient to arrive at the correct diagnosis.

Interpreting Imaging

Radiology, the practice of reading the results of medical imaging tests like x-rays and MRIs, is set for a major reboot due to the AI revolution. Because of the relative mechanical nature of interpreting imaging results, AI will likely replace humans (radiologists) because they are more accurate and speedier than those of test results. These are just a few of the many ways AI will forever alter the way we think about healthcare and the patient experience.
